August 4, 2009 Trip to Naples Beach

It's time for a getaway and we are famous for spur of the moment trips. So even though we hadn't planned anything, we still managed to pull off a nice little escape.

We are a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of family, when it comes to many things in life, and so we often take trips on a whim. This time was no different. We decided on Monday that we were leaving for Naples on Tuesday. It worked out nicely.

We were able to take advantage of the IHG discounts and found a great deal at the Staybridge Suites. Which I must say, I was very pleased with. I think it is safe to say the rest of the gang was also happy with the place.

The free breakfast buffet and hamburgers and hot dogs in the evening was a really nice touch. I was pleased that we didn't have to wake up and cook breakfast OR spend any money on it. And considering it was a real breakfast, it really impressed me.

So our first night we checked in later in the evening, ordered some pizza and turned in early. Well for us anything before 1AM IS early.

Wednesday morning, we were up and out of the room early and at the beach by 10:30. his was our 2ND visit to Naples, so we knew right where to go. We headed to the same beach we visited the last time, Lowder Milk Park. A very nice beach. Very, Very clean. It is a short walk on the sand to the water, and not crowded at all.

We were having a lovely time, but those stupid rain clouds were hanging around in the distance just letting us know that they were going to show up and rain on our parade. And since we all know how paranoid mommy is about thunderstorms, you can imagine I was getting anxious as the sky grew darker by the hour.

So we eventually headed back to our hotel after a few hours at the beach. We were hoping to go back early in the afternoon but the rain really stuck around. So we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and then went for a swim in the hotel pool. Then we ate hamburgers and hot dogs!

Jacob was making strangers in the pool think he was drowning by screaming "help me, I'm gonna die!" Which was actually kind of cute and funny. One of those things you had to be there for. And Jonah and Joshua got tossed around in the pool by Dad. Jacob and I had fun showing Daddy how well he had learned to swim under water.

Afterwards, we loaded into the car for an evening ride to the beach. Went to see if we could check out Lover's Key Beach. I have wanted to visit there for a while. But it was too late when we got there, so we just went to another near by beach to watch the sunset.
I took some great pictures and we got chewed up by some annoying....or as Joshua would say Ennoying, little black bugs.

We headed back to the Hotel for an evening of entertainment. We all watched "Shark Week" and a really neat show called "The Great White Appetite" which was fascinating. That is one creature I hope to never get up close and personal with!

Thursday morning, we attempted a return visit to the beach, but it just wasn't sunny at all. We only managed to stay for about 45 minutes before the rain started. We went back to the room and got packed up to come home.

The ride home was long. Especially after we listened to a "Black Eyed Peas" song. Jonah kept singing the lyrics and then Joshua started with it...and before we know it, Jacob has the song stuck in his head too. It was driving us NUTS!
I was beginning to wish we had one of those windows like the limousine's so we could roll it up on them and not have to listen to it. Just kidding!

More to come later...eyes are tired!
